urdu - english

Of late, there seems to be resurgence in the use of Urdu words in film songs... Guess the song-writers can't do without employing the beauty and sweetness of Urdu
Some meanings of words that have found their way into 'hit-songs'...

shab-e-firaaq -- night of separation
rab -- creator, god
qurbat -- closeness, intimacy
rehguzar -- path
deedaar -- glimpse
kahkashaan -- galaxy
ibtadaa -- commencement
intehaa -- limit

I will try to keep posting meanings as soon as I find a decent amount of appealing words

wernt urdu words always used in bollywood movies?
also with fanaa releasing, there are a lot of urdu words in the songs in it.

@jeet - :D - zaroor

@pratik - they were since ancient times; of-late songs had lost intent and had become crude, thanks to the meaningless use of words.. just look back at the films of 90's and 2000's ... it isnt generic, but was prevelant

What does Fanaa mean?

Blogger Zaki M said ... (2:18 AM) :

@pethe - fanaa literally means destroyed, dead
fanaa ho jaana -- to perish, to die
